Important Updates for 3 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse
12-19-08
Congratulations on completion of Dr. Ritamarie’s 3 day green smoothie cleanse.
I appreciate you sharing it with me. I’ve had a lot of positive feedback about it. It was good for me to give myself a break.
Regardless of whether you did Option A, all green smoothies, or simply drank 1 or more smoothies each day, you’ve given yourself the gift of better health. The program is not about perfection; it’s about progress.
I recommend that you reward yourself for taking this step. Make it something special. It could be a hike, a massage, some quiet time, a bath…whatever juices you. It’s important to reinforce positive behaviors with rewards to inspire more of the same.
Recommended follow-up
1. If you’ve been doing Option A, all green smoothies, be careful to slowly introduce solid food back. Start with something light, like a salad, possibly with avocado. You can take the benefits forward by making good food choices. If you’ve already purchased the full green smoothie cleanse program, there is a post cleanse menu plan laid out.
2- If you’ve been doing option A or B, consider continuing on an all raw or mostly raw diet including at least a quart a day of green smoothie, and 2 pounds of greens for as long as you can.
3- If you’ve been doing option C, continue the habit of 2 green smoothies a day, and get yourself the education and support you need to make gradual changes to upgrade your diet.
4.Remember to move your body for at least 20 minutes a day at least 4 times a week. Make it fun and really let yourself get the full benefit of exercise. Do 30-45 minutes if you can, and do it outdoors if that is possible.
5.Get fresh air and sunshine, weather permitting. If you live in a northern climate where there is little sunshine this time of year, consider a Vitamin D supplement. Dr. Joel Fuhrman has a good one caller OsteoSun on his site, at
?http://www.drfuhrman.com/shop/supplements.aspx
6.Start and end your day with appreciation. Do three in the morning and three in the evening. It feels so good!
7.Bring plenty of smoothie and fresh fruits and vegetables wherever you go.
?
8.Remember your goals. Feeling good is a process that’s worth the work. Feel happy first, and the happy producing events and circumstances will follow. Good health is part of the formula for happiness and fulfillment. It’s hard to experience true joy when you’re not feeling your best.
Go ahead and make your first post cleanse meal fun, nutritious and easy to digest.
Make the coming week about treating yourself kindly and gently and finding the foods that truly satisfy and nourish you.
Make greens a lifestyle, not just a break in the action.
Real Life Experience
I went to a Christmas party tonight after a few hours Christmas shopping with my 14 year old Eric. It was great to spend time with him. I got home late, and still needed to make something to bring with me. Fortunately the party was right next door.
I quickly threw together an appetizer platter consisting of a creamy garlic dill dip, some carrots, celery and red bell pepper, and an assortment of flax and chia seed crackers I’d make earlier in the week. It took about 5 minutes to do.
Lots of people commented about the dip, and they couldn’t believe there was no dairy. So I told them about my Indulge without the Bulge DVD, and how they could learn to make it by watching the demo and following recipe in the recipe booklet that comes along with it.
Anyway, about the party. I was in a situation that you may find yourself in during this holiday season. There was a huge buffet of food. I scanned for something that I wanted to eat. There was nothing. Not a single salad or fruit plate. Not a single vegetable of any kind except for in the cheesy, meaty casseroles.
I didn’t follow one of my prime strategies…eat asalad or drink a green smoothie before going out. I couldn’t. I was running late. Fortunately I did follwo my other prime strategy…take something with you that will fill you up in case that’s all you can eat. Since I was just getting off the green smoothie cleanse, creamy nut dip and flax/chia crackers were not my best choice of post cleanse meals, but I ate them anyway, along with carrots, celery and red bell pepper.
I managed to meet some new people and get talking about my favorite topic…nutrition. I kept in mind another strategy…focus on the people not the food. It worked out perfectly, and I may have a few new Green Cleanse participants in January as a result.

Thanks for making this a joyous experience for me.

Day 3 is here already. Three day cleanses seem to just get started and then they’re over!
Regardless of which plan you chose, you can’t help but do your body some good.
To continue to get benefits from the nutrient density of greens, follow these ideas after the cleanse:
- keep up the habit of having 1-2 green smoothies per day.
- Consume 2 pounds or more greens each day, as smoothies, salads, hidden in crackers, and hwever you can. Just be sure at least 1/2 is raw to get the most benefit.
- Start each day with 3 appreciations
- Chew your food thoroughly. Your stomach doesn’t have teeth
- Move your body in fun ways- work up a good sweat at least 4 days a week for 20 or minutes each time
- Take time each day for fun, even if it’s only for 5 minutes

Dr. Ritamarie’s Recipes
Dinner Day 1:
I’m going to have this one, from page 19 of the recipe guide. I’ll probably add some kale instead of using just spinach. If you don’t like cardamom or cinnamon, leave them out It tastes great either way.
Grapes and Greens
1 cup of grapes
juice of 1 lemon
1 bunch spinach or romaine lettuce
1 cup water
¼ tsp cardamom
¼ inch slice of ginger
¼ tsp cinnamon
Instructions
Add water or juice to desired consistency.
Blend all ingredients until smooth
H Here’s the recipe my husband Scott made me Tuesday night. It was delicious
- 4 small tomatillos
- 2 roma tomatoes
- 2 stalks celery
- 1/2 inch ginger
- 1 green onion
- 1 handful parsley
- 1 handful cilantro
- 1 handful broccoli sprouts
- 1 head collard greens
- 3-4 handfuls spinach
- 1 red bell pepper
- juice of 1 1/2 limes
- salt to taste (optional)
- water to fill the vitamix
Blend all into smooth. Cut recipe in half and add ingredients a few at a time if you don’t have a high speed blender like the vitamix or ktec
I was hungry again a few hours later and made the following
- 2 grapefruits, peeled
- 1 ripe pear
- a few handfuls spinach
- 1 handful broccoli sprouts
- 1/2 inch piece ginger
Blend everything until smooth. I didn’t need to add water because the grapefruit was so juicy.

Friday’s Recipes
Believe it or not I didn’t make a green smoothie today. I did drink one though. Scott made it, so I’m not sure what was in it. I drank a quart. I had a busy day, so all I had was the one smoothie in the morning. Since I started the cleanse Tuesday evening, I got to eat again Friday evening. My first “meal” was a banana I bought at the gas station on my way home. Then, at the party, I munched on a few of the flax and chia crackers from my Feast Your Way to Health book. After the party I ate another banana anad an apple.
