Fatigue and Burnout: Strategies for Adrenal Exhaustion and Just Plain Tiredness

Written by Ritamarie Loscalzo on March 23, 2010 – -

Are you suffering from adrenal burnout and fatigue? Low thyroid function? Chronic fatigue or Fibromyalgia?

Do you have as much energy as you’d like to have?

overcoming chronic fatigueWhat would you do if you had more energy? Think about what it would be like  to pop out of bed in the morning, bright, cheery and ready for the day.

As you go through your day, you feel energized by your food, your conversations, your work and your activities. When asked by a friend or family member to participate in a fun evening activity , you always say yes,
without fear of losing steam at the end of the day, and being too tired to to do much more than flop on the couch.

You participate in activities you love, eat healthy meals, exercise and are fully present for your relationships. You never hear yourself utter the words, “I’m too tired.”  Instead you say, “I feel so energized.”

Sound like a romantic fiction novel? This life is possible for you.

Fatigue, exhaustion, tiredness, weariness, low energy…whatever you choose to call it, it’s a real problem and it overcoming exhaustion and burnouthappens to real people like you. There are many causes. Some are obvious, others not so obvious. When I asked  at one of my workshops for a show of hands of people who felt that were fatigued, or had low energy, all but 1 or 2 people raised their hands.

Then I proceeded to give one of my favorite definitions of fatigue. The definition goes something like this:

The decreased capacity or complete inability of an organism, an organ, or a part to function normally because of excessive stimulation or prolonged exertion.

I talked about how you may feel like you have plenty of energy (caffeine and other stimulants can give you that illusion), yes parts of you are operating sub par. Maybe your neurotransmitters are sluggish and you have difficulties with focus, or your digestion and you’re constipated, or your hormones, and you have menstrual irregularities.

It takes all of your parts working in harmony to achieve vibrant energy.

At the end of the presentation, one of the women who’d not considered herself fatigued, thanked me and said that she didn’t associate the sluggishness in her digestive tract with fatigue. She just figured it was “normal” for her. My talk inspired her to look at ways she could energize her digestion and thus improve her overall experience of vibrant health and high energy.

There are many causes of fatigue. Here are five:

  1. Underfed and toxic mitochondria
  2. Hormone imbalances – especially thyroid, adrenal, insulin and leptin
  3. Digestive Inefficiencies
  4. Autoimmune Processes
  5. Serious diseases, like cancer, heart disease and diabetes

I’ll be exploring the topic of fatigue and its underlying causes and strategies for identifying and removing them on my Creating a Vibrant Life Blog Talk Radio Show on Wednesday, March 24 at 12:30 PM central time.

We’ll demystify adrenal fatigue, and distinguish it from thyroid fatigue. We’ll share strategies, stories and inspiration, to help move you from exhausted to energized.

Submit your questions for me pertaining to fatigue and regaining energy in the comment box below so we can address your concerns on the show.

The shows are all recorded and you can access the recording and download to iTunes by going back to the show link afterward. There are archives of past shows there as well.

My Commitment to My Adrenals: No Fatigue, Just Sleep!

Written by Ritamarie Loscalzo on March 21, 2010 – -

When I work with people with fatigue symptoms, related to thyroid and adrenal overload, I talk about several key things:

healthy My Commitment to My Adrenals: No Fatigue, Just Sleep!

  1. Whole foods, fresh diet, high in raw foods
  2. Proper hydration
  3. Omega 3 fat balance
  4. Getting off allergenic and inflammatory foods, including gluten, dairy, and sugar.
  5. Fresh air and sunshine
  6. Exercise
  7. Restoring their adrenal reserve and enhancing detoxification via sleep.

I model the first 6 beautifully. I am committed to being as healthy and vibrant as I can be so that I can be a role model to others.

So why is number 7 so ###!!## hard for me?

I did really well on my sleep commitment the first week of my 30 day challenge.

My adrenals loved me for it, and I warded off a bout with adrenal fatigue by giving myself what I needed.

So why can’t I make a firm and lasting commitment?

I’m backsliding. I won’t even say how late it was when my head finally hit the pillow.sleeping 150x150 My Commitment to My Adrenals: No Fatigue, Just Sleep!

There’s still lots to do…there always will be. Yet I am off to meet my pillow and keep my commitment to me.

I made no commitments today and I kept none. What a deal. Tomorrow is a new day.

I did make myself a quart of green juice to start the day. It was lovely. I also did a great job on my omega 3′s today.  The subject is on my mind, as balancing the immune system was the topic of the week for Balance My Body.

I noticed dark circles under my eyes…not good for a fatigue expert to look tired. Not good for someone who prides herself in looking much younger and having the body of a 20 something year-old to notice signs of aging.

Commitments for Sunday, and the rest of the week.

  • I will get outside and exercise
  • I will make at least 16 ounces of green juice and 32 ounces of smoothie
  • I will get my omega 3′s again
  • I will eat consciously and with gratitude
  • I will…can I say it and mean it…I will…..I will…..go to bed by 11PM…at least Sunday

Please hold me to it. Write me and ask me what time I went to bed. I can’t lie.

Post below and be bold enough to check in and make sure I am doing what I committed to. Sleep is vital for health. Food is great, exercise is great, greens are great…but they will only take me so far if I keep burning the candle at both ends.

Have a wonderful Sunday.

Sleeeeeeeeeeeep!

Love, Health and Joy,

Dr. Ritamarie

WISH: Detoxification to Support Adrenal Exhaustion, Low Sex Drive and Digestive Issues: Sleep and Fun are Important Components

Written by Ritamarie Loscalzo on March 18, 2010 – -

potions 150x150 WISH: Detoxification to Support Adrenal Exhaustion, Low Sex Drive and Digestive Issues: Sleep and Fun are Important ComponentsDetoxification and cleansing programs are in the news, on the health food store shelves and talked about now in casual conversation. They are said to cure everything — adrenal exhaustion and chronic fatiguesluggish thyroid, depression, decreased sex drive and even cancer.  Seriously, you’ve probably heard about detoxification over and over…yet do you have a clear understanding of what the process is all about? There are powders and potions, and olive oil liver flushes and lemonade diets that have become popular, yet what really is detox and why is it important?

On my interview for the Women’s International Summit for Health (W.I.S.H.) I discuss the process of detoxification, it’s importance in hormone balance, digestive health, energy, sex drive and every other function your body does for you.  Learn how to support your body’s natural detoxification mechanisms daily and when to engage in a special program.  If you haven’t already listened in, you can sign up at Women’s International Summit for Health (W.I.S.H.).

If you’ve already listened to the call, you know that we decided to do a Women’s 3 day mini green detox program.  It’s short, easy and WISH: Detoxification to Support Adrenal Exhaustion, Low Sex Drive and Digestive Issues: Sleep and Fun are Important Components powerful.  And you don’t need any special equipment or potions to make it happen.  All you need is a blender, some fresh, raw leafy greens and some fresh or frozen fruit.  Are you ready to begin?

To start, download my FREE e-book “Blended Greens for Health and Longevity”.  If you’ve already participated in my powerful 7 day Green Smoothie Cleanse, you can use your Green Cleanse Recipe Guide, with over 50 delicious smoothie and soup recipes.

Here’s what to do:

Preparation for 3 Day Green Cleanse and Detoxification Program

Download “Blended Greens for Health and Longevity” or search the web for green smoothie recipes.

Join in on the Raw Divas 3 day green smoothie mini course for day to day email support.

The essence of the program is to do the following for 3 days

  • Drink Green smoothies and green soup all day long, as much as you’d like and as much as you need to keep you satisfied.
  • In addition to the green smoothies, you may eat one or two large salads, loaded with greens and rainbow vegetables and fresh whole fruit.
  • For Dressing, you can keep it simple by blending cucumber, apple and fresh herbs, or blend tomato, celery and lemon juice, or tomato, mango and lime juice, or red bell pepper, tomato, lemon or lime and herbs.  Or, make up your own simple blend – it’s easy.  You can also get the e-book  70 Healthy Salad Dressings Recipe Book, a collection of  easy, low fat  and tasty salad dressings you can make in less than 2 minutes.  For the 3 day cleanse, choose dressings that contain little or no added fat for best results.

You’ll soon be feeling lighter, cleaner and clear-headed.

If you like how you feel, who knows, you may decide to keep it going a little longer, or may even decide to join on my next green cleanse.

Comment below if you’re joining in.  Make a commitment to yourself and to thousands of women across the globe.

And also join in the ongoing 30 Day Sleep and Fun Challenge.  Every day, we’re posting our commitments to health supporting activities that we’ll do that day.  It helps keep you on track.  Take a look through previous days posts to see the kinds of things people are accomplishing.

So what do fun and sleep have to do with detoxification?  Lots!  Fun changes your chemistry, decreases internally produced stress toxins and frees your liver to more effectively detox.  The WISH call talks more about this.  And sleep is master at helping you to cleanse.  While you sleep, your detox mechanisms are going full steam ahead and cleaning you up from the days debris.  Between the hours of 11 and 1, your liver is especially active at detox, unless you’re still awake.  Then you get hungry because of the increased metabolic fire that’s intended for detox. So sleep, especially before midnight is very important for cleansing

My challenges lately have been not taking enough time for fun and sleep. That’s why I started this challenge.  I’m making progress, but as you’ll see below. I’m not perfect yet.

My report card from yesterday:

1- bed by midnight - I had so much to do with the WISH summit, Balance My Body Program and private client follow-up that I missed my deadline and made it to bed by 1:30am.  Still, a lot earlier that I’d been doing before this challenge started.  Progress, not perfection is my motto.  The important thing is my awareness is there and I am not unconsciously staying up too late.  Plus I feel so energetic at midnight.

2- running in the sun - it rained here so running up and down stairs was the best I could do

3- 15 minute fun break - my fun was creating a kelp noodle lunch!

4- 2 quarts green smoothie - this is easy for me by now.  I love my green smoothies

My commitments for today

1- get out for a run in the sun (its sunny again)

2- finish writing a chapter in my new book

3- bed by 12:30 – I am being realistic here…knowing what needs to be completed

4- Green smoothies only ’til dinner

Are you joining the 3 day green detox challenge?  What are your goals?  What are you committed to today?  Comment below and be sure to sign up here to be notified whenever I post a new article here so you don’t miss anything.

30 Day Fun and Sleep Challenge: The Importance of Managing Your Stress

Written by Ritamarie Loscalzo on March 16, 2010 – -

Sleep is important.  Fun is important.  Diet is important.  What’s as or  more important than all of these in creating vibrant health?  Giving your adrenals a rest!

Adrenal exhaustion has become an epidemic and it contributes to so many chronic health challenges.

There are lots of techniques for appreciation for reducing adrenal fatigue and increasing energytransforming stress and rebuilding your adrenals.  Nothing is as profound as the power of appreciation.  One of my favorites is to start and end each day by thinking about 3 things that I appreciate.  Try it.  Another favorite is to take a few deep breaths before each meal and tune into what I appreciate about the food I am about to consume.

My friend and Book Doula, Dr. Liz Alexander, wrote a fascinating article about walking meditation using labyrinths as a method of transforming stress and supporting your adrenals.

Tune into where you feel stress in your body, and learn to notice early warning signs.  Support yourself, nurture yourself, have fun and eat green.  You’ll soon find yourself with more energy than you know what to do with.

My report card for Monday:

1- bed by midnight.  Yikes – I really Blew it Sunday night…better Monday.  I had a lot of catch up to do and I took time for fun and exercise, so I made the choice to stay up later than I should have ( 3AM /12:30 AM ) .  I could feel the difference Monday morning, although my energy came back pretty quickly

2- finish writing a few projects that are close to completion – Success here!

3- fun time with kids, who are off school for spring break – Spend some time with my 11 year old

4- running in the sun – yeah.  It was warm again today! I love running when it’s warm.

My commitments for Tuesday:

1- bed by midnight.

2- running in the sun

3- 15 minute fun break

4- 2 quarts green smoothie

Commitment for at least one day this week:  Get to bed by 10 PM and see if it is really as good as it’s cracked up to be!

What about you?  What are you committed to?

Post below in the comments section.

This week we’re having a contest.  I’m offering a prize to whoever posts the most this week…genuine commitments and report cards.  The prize for the winner is an e-book and audio recording.

Wishing you lots of Love, Health and Joy (and sleep, too)

Day 14 of the 30 Day Fun and Sleep Challenge: Exercise, Vitamin D and Antidotes for Chronic Fatigue

Written by Ritamarie Loscalzo on March 15, 2010 – -

What do chronic fatigue, belly fat, depression and hormone imbalance have in common?

freedomExercise, sleep, fresh air, sunshine (vitamin D) and fresh foods.  A deficiency of any or all of these can create imbalances in hormones and  blood sugar irregularities that lead to persistent belly fat, fatigue and depression.  So what do these have to do with the 30 day fun and sleep challenges?  Plenty!  Most people I talk with feel fatigued much of the time and would like more energy.

Lack of sleep is only part of the equation, but it can make you fat.  Researchers have found that lack of sleep can cause decreased leptin levels.  Leptin is a hormone that regulates your appetite. As a result of not getting enough sleep, you’ll find yourself more hungry and you’ll find it challenging to control the amount you eat.  This leads to blood sugar imbalances, insulin resistance and increased belly fat.  Insulin resistance results in fatigue after eating, rather than  increased energy, which means you’re less likely to exercise.  It’s quite the vicious circle.

While I have not been as good as I had planned at writing these blog posts daily, I am pleased to admit that the reason why I haven’t had the time to write the blog posts daily is that I have been fulfilling my commitment to get to bed as close to midnight as possible.  Thus, I am sleeping more.  As a result of sleeping more, I’ve also been exercising more.  A double win!  There have only been a couple of later than midnight bedtimes, and that was because I chose to sit in the sauna before bed.

If my lack of posting has in any way effected your commitment to the 30 Day Fun and Sleep Challenge, my apologies.  I am committed to resuming writing daily, and have it scheduled in my calendar.

Our weather in Austin has finally become warm and sunny!  I’m very happy about that.  The mornings have still been cool…40′s, but the afternoons are in the 70′s and 80′s.  So I have been out for a run in the sun most days this week.  It feels great.

I am usually very consistent with exercise…as consistent as I am with food.  When the weather got so cold and cloudy for so long, I got out of the habit of running first thing in the morning, and some days, time and obligations got away from me and I found my exercise dwindling.

In addition to getting your daily dose of vitamin D on sunny days, exercising in the fresh air offers so many benefits. Exercise is super important for hormone balance, weight management, increasing your energy and overcoming fatigue.  It’s also good for your heart, your mood and your immune system.  Fresh air and exercise are a dynamic duo, so get outside and move as much as you can.

My blog post back in the fall about exercise and burst training is a good one to review for some tips.

My report card for the last few days:

1- getting to sleep at or around midnight:  Excellent

2- exercise:  excellent

3- writing my blog posts:  fair

4- Having fun – good.  I’ve spent a lot of time with family and have had some friend fun too.

My commitments for Monday:

1- bed by midnight.

2- finish writing a few projects that are close to completion

3- fun time with kids, who are off school for spring break

4- running in the sun

Commitment for at least one day this week:  Get to bed by 10 PM and see if it is really as good as it’s cracked up to be!

What about you?  What are you committed to?

Post below in the comments section.

This week we’re having a contest.  I’m offering a prize to whoever posts the most this week…genuine commitments and report cards.  I’ll post the prize on Tuesday.

True Confessions and an Invitation to March Daily Health Commitment Challenge

Written by Ritamarie Loscalzo on March 2, 2010 – -

I’ve come to a realization and I feel the need to be really honest and open about it.

I spend my days connecting with thousands of people all over the globe, sharing the message of health–vibrant health–through focused actions and nourishing choices.

And for the most part, I totally live all that I teach.

Because I overcame debilitating fatigue in my 20′s through whole fresh plant foods, exercise and focused self fatigue True Confessions and an Invitation to March Daily Health Commitment Challengecare, I’ve dedicated my life to teaching others to do the same.

Lately, I have been falling short on my commitment to self care and I feel I need to own up to it and reaffirm my dedication to my own self care in order to best guide you as you work on your own.

I’ve always been a night owl, but over the past 3 months it has become worse. While I recognize the need for sleep for rejuvenation and detoxification, I just can’t seem to get myself to follow through.

I have several projects that are near an dear to my heart and I’ve been staying up into the wee hours more than I should.

The universe has been giving me subtle signals (and some not so subtle signals).  I wrote a blog post about it a few weeks ago, right after I took a nasty fall and hurt my elbow.  The message I was getting loud and clear was to slow down.  And I did–for a couple of days.

When you’re really healthy and get a couple of extended sleep nights it’s enough to make you feel like you can conquer the world again…so I started back on the late nights a few days after the injury.  I know better than anyone the importance of sleep for recovering from injury, yet I continued to push myself.

The universe has been talking to me again and the message is the same.  Only this time it wasn’t so subtle.  Twice in the past 2 weeks, I got a wave of exhaustion at 3PM on Friday afternoon.  It was so powerful that I did something completely out of character…I took a nap.  I haven’t felt exhausted like that in many years.

ritamarie 327 True Confessions and an Invitation to March Daily Health Commitment ChallengeThis morning during my exercise session, I re-injured my arm.  In fact I completely dislocated it.  Fortunately, I was able to re-locate it myself, but it’s talking to me now.  It’s saying “slow down”.

I’ve had some administrative challenges over the past few weeks, which I believe may be on the way to resolution, and as a result, I got behind on answering emails, creating some bonus materials for my Balance My Body Blueprint program, and completing a few e-books.  In spite of all of that, however, I am committed to lights out before midnight for the rest of the week.

That may not seem like much for some, but for me, it’s big.  Once I get the hang of it, maybe I will push it back to 11pm.

The world is on the verge of a whole new paradigm in health care, and we are the leaders.  We need to teach by example and that’s just what I intend to improve at doing.

I believe that it’s important to keep commitments, and I also feel it’s important to make realistic commitments.  I believe some of my commitments have been realistic only if I am willing to work 16 hour days, so my new commitment is to be realistic and keep in mind the importance of balance whenever I make commitments.

One other commitment I am re-affirming—having fun everyday.  When I was leading my Jumpstart Your 0509 DRM 359 F True Confessions and an Invitation to March Daily Health Commitment ChallengeEnergy class back in October, we did daily goals on the forum, and each of us told what we planned to do for fun.  By publicly declaring it, I made time for fun everyday.

I decided to re-awaken that ritual.  The plan is a blog post every day, in which I declare my bedtime from the night before, and my health goals for the day, including the fun activity I choose each day.

Would you like to join me?  All you need to do is subscribe to the blog so you get notified when I post a new entry, and comment each day with your commitments.  I commit to doing this for 30 days.  Who’s in?  It’s absolutely FREE.
I’ll probably come up with some sort of contest as we go along, so don’t miss a single day…register and make your comment for Day 1 here.  I’m calling it the 30 Day Sleep and Fun Challenge.

Dr. Ritamarie’s  commitments for Tuesday, March 2:

  1. Lights out by midnight
  2. Exercise 30 minutes or longer
  3. Drink at least 2 quarts of green smoothie

What are you committing to?  Comment below.

Wishing you Love, Health and Joy,

Dr. Ritamarie

Avoid Adrenal Fatigue by Taking Time For Self Care

Written by Ritamarie Loscalzo on February 2, 2010 – -

So what does adrenal faigue have to do with self care?  Everything.  When you take care of yourself, your stress levels go down.  And when your stress levels decrease, that’s a good thing for you!

Do you have any idea what happens on a physiologic level when you gt stressed out, worry about the future or fret about he past?  Your body releases a cascade of chemicals designed to help you escape from tigers.  Your heart rate speeds up, your blood pressure elevated, your sex drive goes away and your digestion shuts down. Does that sound like the rpescription for a healthy, energetic and happy life?  Certainly not

The stress hormone cortisol gets secreted into your blood stream, and makes trouble throughout your body.  Sure,  it helps you to fight tigers, but that’s not going to help you much when you’re getting all stressed out about the state of the economy.  And it certainly doesn’t help you to think of creative ways you can deflect economic trends and prosper in spite of the world around you.  In fact, it does just the opposite.

One of the effects of cortisol is cortical inhibition. That means, it temporarily shuts off the higher-level thinking center of your brain.   This is important when you’re fleeing the real tiger, because solving economic problems would be counter productive when those big teeth are about to turn you into lunch.   Cortisol activates the primitive parts of yoru brain, the survival centers. It also causes damage to a part of your brain called the hippocampus, which is responsible for short term memory.  “Brain fog”, forgetfullness and lack of focus are sigs of adrenal fatugue.

Cortisol also inhibits your immune system and its ability to fight off invaders, to maintain balance, kill cancer cells, and keep you healthy.  Cortisol also makes you fat, especially around the middle.  Why does stress make you fat? Well, stress leads to increased production of cortisol, which  triggers a mechanism in the body to release more sugar into the blood, because you’re going to need it to escape the tiger.

The release of sugar into the blood causes the release of insulin because insulin is what is needed to remove the sugar from your blood and get  it into your cells, where it’s needed. That’s great when you have a real tiger chasing you.  And it doesn’t present a problem when the stress response is infrequent and short lived.  The problem is, in our modern lifestyle we get stressed often and we stay stressed for long periods of time.

And as if it’s not enough to be more prone to illness and cancer, stress kills your sex drive!  And it stresses your mitochondria so they can’t produce enough energy, so you get tired.

If being a stressed out sick and overweight individual with no sex drive and no memory does not sound like fun to you, then you need to learn how to take care of your needs and transform the stressful responses to recharging ones.

In my Transforming Stress teleseminars I describe some of my favorite techniques for turning the stressful times into positive physiologic responses, using the power of appreciation.

I recorded a video on how to make the time for self care, in spite of your busy schedule.  Consistently taking time for self care allows your adrenals to restore, and can even reverse adrenal fatigue.

What do you do to take care of yoruself everyday?

Write it down below for me.

Thanks,

Love, Health and Joy,

Dr. Ritamarie

Addressing Adrenal Fatigue and Sluggish thyroid: Start with a Detox

Written by Ritamarie Loscalzo on December 4, 2009 – -

sixweek 6 200x280 Addressing Adrenal Fatigue and Sluggish thyroid: Start with a Detox

Everyone is always looking for answers that are complicated, sophisticated and sexy.  The truth is, most health issues have simple solutions.  Notice I said simple, not easy.

In fact, some of the simplest solutions of all are often the hardest to follow.

1- Fresh food: When you’re running around chasing after deadlines, it’s not always easy to find fresh food.  It’s certainly not in the vending machines or the fast food joints.

2- Fresh, clean water: Unless you carry your own, it’s not generally available, although more and more places carry bottled water.  I was in a restuarant last week with family that didn’t!  What a shock.

3- Fresh air : Our air is filled with chemicals and pollution.  Unless you live in a pristine area far far away form the cities, clean air is hard to find.  And the indoor air is even worse;  it’s polluted with all the chemicals used in building materials, carpets, paint and cleanin supplies.

4 – Exercise : When you’re working 12 hour a day, taking care of kids, and running a mile a minute to keep up with obligations, finding time to exercise can be a challenge, unless you are dedicated and make it an important part of your day.

5- Positive thoughts : If you listen to the news, read the newspaper or watch TV, the constant reporting of terrifying events, ominous predictions and financial gloom are enough to wear your positive thoughts to the bone.

6- Fulfilling Relationships: When you’re working hard just to survive, it’s easy to overlook the kind words and deeds and special touches that keep your relationships flourishing.

7- Sunshine : It’s lovely, abundant in many parts of the world and ellusive to many because we stay cooped up indoors working and taking care of our families.

Your health would improve dramatically if you could incorporate all of the above SIMPLE things into your life on a regular basis.

The hard, cold  reality is, try as you might, you’ll slip up on some of these “simple” health tips more than you’d like.  And when you do, your detoxification pathways suffer and you open yourself for fatigue, lack of focus and illness.

That’s why I developed a variety of cleansing and detoxification strategies that I perform at least 3-4 times a year to detoxify my system.

So just how toxic are you?  Because there are so many genetic and environmental differences between people, the buildup of toxins effects each of us a bit diferently.

I have a test you can take to assess how much your health has been effected by toxicity.  The test has ben around for a long time, and was originally developed by a mentor of mine , Dr. Jeffrey Bland, back in the 1980s.

My webmaster computerized it so that you can take it and get instant feedback.

Here’s the link.

Overcoming Chronic Fatigue and Adrenal Exhaustion by Having Fun!

Written by Ritamarie Loscalzo on November 6, 2009 – -

I work with lots of patients and clients who suffer from adrenal exhaustion, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and thyroid problems.  I learn a lot from them.  One thing I’ve noticed is that they are too tired to have fun.  Imagine not having enough time in your life for enjoyment?    By the time they finish doing all the things they “have to”  do, they need to rest, and are constantly turning down offers to go out for fun activities.  Even though I don’t suffer from fatigue–in fact quite the opposite – I still sometimes fall into the trap of putting fun last.

I’ve learned a lot of lessons about this very topic this week.  It started last Sunday when I had an unexpected day of unplanned connection and fun.

I realized that although I value having fun, I sometimes let it take the back burner to work and family oligations.

One of the tools I use when coaching both private and group coaching clients is a fun assessment.  They are guided to list at least 20 things they love to do, and create a strategy for incorporating fun into each day.  I haven’t done this myself in a long time, and I plan to do it this weekend.  Because your interesets may change from time to time, it’s a good idea to revisit the activity regularly, or at least twice a year.

So schedule some time…at least a half an hour..to sit back, relax and make a list of all the things you love so much that you feel a calling to them.  Then schedule as many days as you can (at least 4) to have scheduled fun time.  Start with 5 minutes.  It’s addicting and you’ll soon find yourself extending the time you’ve allotted.

Just do it. When you’re having fun, your biochemistry changes. You become more relaxed and your digestion improves. Your hormones are more balanced. Your neurotransmitters become more balanced and as a result your mood improves and your energy increases.

I’m planning to schedule at least 5 minutes of fun every day. My life and my health depend on it.

How about you? Will you join me? Post your reply in the comments section below.

Love, Health and FUN.

3 Myths About Fatigue That Every Woman Should Know

Written by Ritamarie Loscalzo on March 31, 2009 – -

I hear it all the time, both professionally and in my private life.  “I’m so tired”.  “I’m too tired to go out tonight”. “I’d like to exercise, but I just don’t have the energy.”

I’m excited to be offering a very special workshop that’s just right for you if you are fatigued, exhausted or just don’t have the energy to live your life the way you’d like to.

It’s called,  “3 Myths About Fatigue Every Woman Should Know”

I’m offering my first one on Tuesday March 31 from 6:30 to 8:30PM in Austin Texas.

I’ll be doing it again, and will also do a shorter version of it in teleseminar form very soon.

So go ahead and read all about it.  If you can make it on such short notice, please register.  I’m giving scholarships to the first 20 people who sign up.  That’s right.  This very valuable  workshop will not cost you a single dime.  And I encourage you to bring at least one friend who you think could benefit.

The information needs to be spread and I’m on a mission to share what I know so that you can live a life you absolutely love.

So go to www.TheWomensFatigueExpert.com and sign up.

If you live out of state, or just can’t make it tomorrow, I encourage you to read the web page anyway, and if you like what you hear, comment below and request me to offer it in your city on on the web.

Love, Health and Joy,

Dr. Ritamarie
