Green Smoothie Cleanse Recipes – Low Glycemic
Written by Ritamarie Loscalzo on July 27, 2010 – -Our Summer 2010 Green Smoothie Cleanse is officially over, and we’re transitioning into the Post Cleanse Week. Chronic fatigue symptoms are abating, allergies are improving and the consensus is there is an overall increased sense of well-being the cleanse promotes. This week is as important as the cleanse week itself. This is wher new habits are formed and the imporvemetns made dueing the cleanse are either re-inforced or left behind. Continuing on a high raw food diet plan helps people sustain the benefits long term.
Here are a couple of delicious recipes shared by one of our Green Smoothie Cleanse Participants. They use in-season, fresh, raw and ripe produce and just the right amount of seasonings.
“Spring Garden Soup”
4 tomatoes
4 celery stalks

1/2 Zucchini
2 handfuls string beans
8 cups Spring Mix

How Would You Like to Use Your Passion For Healthy Living to Empower Others to Overcome Their Health Challenges?
Written by Ritamarie Loscalzo on January 16, 2009 – -It’s happened to me, and many of my friends and colleagues as well. I hear stories all the time. It may even be happening to you. You or someone you love has had an amazing turn around in health as a result of applying healthy living principles…diet, exercise, herbs or a particular healing modality. You’re so excited by it, that you’re ready to share it with the world. You’d like nothing better than to be able to positively impact the lives of others, the way yours has been changed.
So how do you get started?
You could decide on a career path and go to a university based program. A degree in Nutrition, along with certification by a national or international organization like the IAACN is one avenue. A medical, naturopathic, osteopathic or chiropractic degree is another avenue. Perhaps you’re more interested in boy work or energy healing. There are a variety of classes to choose from.
If you’d like to get started sooner, there are a number of courses that can get you started. Here are just a few resources that I recommend:
Association of Online Nutrition Practitioners (AOLNP)
How to get started in the Natural Health Movement
Holistic Health Counselor Program with Dr. Tel Oren
Karen Knowler’s Raw Foods Professionals Online Group Coaching Program
Karen Knowler’s Raw Food Classes – To Go! Home Study Program
Living Light Culinary Institute
Alissa Cohen’s Living on Live Food Certification
Join the Association of Online Nutrition Practitioners to keep up to date on resources and tools for creating multiple streams of income teaching healthy eating principles.

Raw Spirit Festival and Raw Weekend Update
Written by Ritamarie Loscalzo on October 22, 2007 – -Raw Spirit Festival and Raw Weekend Update
Sedona Arizona is a magical place all the time. Bright orange peaks that resemble characters and castles, energy vortexes and a wide array of alternative healing opportunities make it a great place to visit anytime. Add 2000 living foods enthusiasts, beautifully prepared and delicious living foods, inspiring talks and great music, and you have a prescription for joy.
The Raw Spirit Fest was truly an amazing event and I am grateful to the organizers, volunteers, and my family for affording me the opportunity to attend. I met lots of new people and made lifelong new friends. Can you imagine making living foods recipes for 2000 people? A crew of volunteers managed to pull it off for 7 meals in a row. Each meal was beautifully presented and packed with nutrition. Next year’s event is already being planned for mid- September. Mark your calendars. It is an event worth attending.
The Living on Live Foods Level 1 class this weekend was was an incredible success. I was joined by 20 amazing people who shared in the excitement of making delicious, vitality promoting dishes. I tried out a new format for the class and it was an overwhelming success. Instead of mostly demonstrations by me and lots of tasting by the students, the students got to make and eat lots of food. Each one walked away knowing that making the food was not only do-able but pretty easy! It was great to taste all the delicious variations of the recipes! The artistry was pretty amazing as well. Thanks to all for making Saturday such a fun day for me.
Saturday evening was equally as amazing. We had a huge turnout for the potluck featuring Yemiah Favor and her Thai Delights DVD. I learned several new techniques and am looking forward to making her Thai noodle recipe. Everyone really outdid themselves on the food, too.
We had delicious Thai soup made by Dina, Thai salad by Yemiah, Tapioca Pudding by Dr. Ritamarie, carrot cake, mango chutney, croquettes, several types of crackers, beautiful and delicious salads too numerous to recall in detail and lots of fresh fruit. We had many new comers and many familiar faces. Wow! The community and support is awe-inspiring!
Thanks to everyone who participated in making this weekend a joy for me. Many many thanks for all the help in making the class a success. Pamela Weems, a recent Living on Live Foods Level 2 graduate made her living foods teaching debut with her delicious version of Spicy Lime Green Cilantro Soup. Pamela’s sister, Melinda Carter, a July 2007 level 1 graduate, came all the way from Dallas to help out. Joshua Adair, our dedicated farmer’s market assistant attended the class and assisted with food prep and cleanup. And of course, thanks to my invaluable assistant, Maureen Honey, for getting the class materials and rosters ready for me while I was away in Arizona attending Raw Spirit Fest. Many thanks to Yemiah and David for sharing their DVD and wealth of knowledge. They are inspiring to all of us.
I am looking forward to this week’s events. We have 3 planned. Wow. Another week filled with high vibration activities to inspire and motivate. I am especially looking forward to all the guest speakers we have lined up through the end of the year.
I just got my professional website back online after it was hacked over the summer. I will be adding resources soon, but in the meantime, I am excited to have it back online at http://www.austinhealthcoach.com/ . The complete class schedule is at http://www.drritamarie.com/
Until Next time,
Yours in health

New Article on the effects of Gluten
Written by Ritamarie Loscalzo on September 12, 2007 – -I haven’t posted in a while. Things got busy there for a while, with a lot of classes and training a new assistant. I plan to write at least weekly.
The topic of gluten intolerance has long been a favorite of mine. In my practice, I see so many major changes in people when they get the gluten out of their diets. Long standing problems often melt away within a few months, sometimes wthin a few weeks.
The widespread effects of gluten intolerance can effect every organ system. Commonly overlooked as related to gluten intolerace are depression and anxiety, thyroiditis, balance problems, ADHD and autistic spectrum disorders, and neuromuscular disorders.
I wrote an article called The Many Faces of Gluten Intolerance for a magazine called Purely Delicious. The full text is available in PDF form at http://www.purelydelicious.net/ . I also wrote a more technical article called The Role of Gluten in the Etiology of Neurodevelopmental Disorders for a professional journal called The Journal of Nutritional Perspectives.
Below is a link to a recently published article from msnbc.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20643573/site/newsweek/page/0/
All of our food preparation classes are gluten free. We have one coming up on September 26 for parents called Making Healthy Food a Hit with Kids. I will be posting details soon.
I will be publishing more gluten free recipes soon. Check back regularly. Sign up for our mailing list and newsletter at http://www.drritamarie.com/.
Healthfully yours,
Dr. Ritamarie Loscalzo
