Tip of the Week: Remember What you Truly Want.

I heard Dr Ritamarie talking on a call about emotional eating or having cravings.  For example if you’re out and about in a shopping centre, or eating out with friends and being tempted by less than healthy foods around you.  She loved this quote from Janet, one of our  Energy Recharge Inner Circle Members:

 

Don't exchange what you want the most for what you want in the moment

 

Tune into what you most want, remember your true goals.

 

A good tip is to write your personal health goal, or that quote, on a little card & keep it in your pocket when you go out. 

 

When you’re walking up and down the shopping aisle & there’s corn-chips, pop-corn, or junkfood, or even some healthfoods that maybe don’t suit you personally so well calling to you – grab your card to remind yourself what you really want.

Endless Energy and Abundant Appreciation

Hi Health-Seeker,

 

I’ve been having a lot of conversations lately, about fatigue and hormone balance, about thyroid, blood sugar and adrenal glands.

 

When I ask people, “what do you want more than anything?”  many answer, “to feel good and have lots of energy just like you”.

 

Energy is the currency of life.  Without it you can’t engage in pleasurable activities, take long walks on the beach or hike in the mountains.

 

Squander your energy, or damage your energy-producing mitochondria and energy slows to a half.  Feed your mitochondria and your energy soars.

 

Here’s what to do, what I do with my energy to make it grow and manifest abundant energy every day:

  • Guard it with your life – it is your life. 
  • Protect it – from toxins in your air, water and food.
  • Nurture it with good thoughts, nutrients and lots of love.
  • Replenish it with rest after you’ve spent it.

I feel so blessed to be able to offer insights and inspiration to people feeling desperate.  Unfortunately western medicine just doesn’t dig deep with patients who’ve lost their energy and complain about signs and symptoms of thyroid dysfunction . And there is so much more that can be done.

and Picnics
 
 
Well it’s that time of year again! Time for summertime holidays, picnics, parties, snacks, weddings, bbq’s, outdoor sporting events, and travel. This time of year also brings a certain amount of understandable stress over how to stay healthy and fit with so many distractions and temptations around. This article is an encore from July of 2012, with some updated resources that are still applicable and can keep you on track.
 
If you plan enough ahead, you can still enjoy yourself and not compromise your healthy habits in any way. You can have the best of both worlds and a summer you will never forget!
 
Summer is the time for outdoor fun – picnics, beach trips, family gatherings, and vacations.
 
In order to fully engage in the fun, your health is more important than ever.
 
Isn’t it ironic that just when you need high energy and a fit body the most, there are more opportunities than ever to let go of your health promoting practices in favor of “traditional” picnic fare and restaurant food?
 
The burgers, hot dogs, and potato salad call your name. Chips, convenience foods, and iced tea sing like sea sirens and, before you know it, you’re energy is dashed on the rocks of processed foods and unrelenting waves of new cravings.

3 Most Commonly Overlooked Strategies for Solving Difficult Cases  – Part 2 of 3
 

Remember the tough cases we discussed last week?  

You remember, the ones who’ve: 

  • They’ve gone gluten free – or so they say.
  • Gave up coffee
  • They’re drinking green drinks almost every day
  • They exercise, meditate and get out doors, yet still they struggle with excess weight, especially around the middle.  They have no energy and their hormones are a mess.  If they stray too far from the  kitchen, they go into a panic attack.

In last week’s newsletter, we introduced you to one of the 3 things most practitioners overlook when attempting to solve the most difficult cases, impaired detoxification pathways.

 

This week, we’ll look at autoimmune thyroid conditions.  Most conventional doctors fail to do a thorough evaluation of thyroid function, and the 2 most commonly overlooked causes of low thyroid  problems are autoimmune (Hashimoto's disease is most common) and receptor resistance.

 

Of course you know that low thyroid function contributes to low energy, blood sugar imbalance and failure to respond to weight release programs.  Autoimmune disease occurs when your immune system goes haywire and starts attacking itself.  When the thyroid is the recipient of these bullets, the entire body can be affected.

 

Bottom line, don’t let autoimmune thyroid conditions slip by you.  Test every client you work with for thyroid antibodies, antithyroglubulin and thyroid peroxidase.  These can be ordered through Direct Labs without a doctor;s prescription.

STRAWBERRY BANANA COCONUT CREAM PIE

 

Are you looking for something to do with all of those summer berries? Want something nice for July 4th celebration? This is a simple, beautiful and delicious pie. This recipe makes a 9″ pie

 

INGREDIENTS – CRUST

  • 1 cup finely shredded unsweetened dried coconut
  • 1 cup almonds, preferably soaked and dehydrated
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup pecans, preferably soaked and dehydrated
  • 1/2 cup pitted Medjool dates

INGREDIENTS – TOPPING

  • 1 cup strawberries, sliced
  • 1 banana, sliced
  • Shredded coconut as desired 

INGREDIENTS – FILLING

  • 2 bananas, sliced
  • 1 banana
  • 2 cups strawberries
  • 1/2 cup coconut butter
  • 4 pitted Medjool dates
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground vanilla beans or vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sunflower lecithin

DIRECTIONS – CRUST

  1. Process the coconut, almonds and salt in a food processor until finely ground.
  2. Add the pecans and process just until they are coarsely chopped.
  3. Add dates and process until the mixture begins to stick together.
  4. Press the crust mixture into a glass pie dish.

DIRECTIONS – FILLING

  1. Place the two sliced bananas in a medium bowl and set aside.
  2. Put 1 banana, 2 cups of whole strawberries, the coconut butter, dates, vanilla and salt in a blender, and blend until smooth.
  3. Add the lecithin and blend until it is incorporated.
  4. Pour the mixture over the sliced bananas and stir well.
  5. Spread the strawberry banana coconut filling in the pie crust.
  6. Decorate the top with banana slices, strawberry slices and coconut flakes.
  7. Chill at least 4 hours.

TIP: for a lower glycemic version, omit dates and add equivalent amount of chia gel plus stevia to taste
