Appreciate Your Way to Digestive Wellness: Dr. Ritamarie’s Gratitude Journal Day 9

by | 3 comments

A woman's hands make a heart shape on her stomach to promote optimal health for a vegan.

In my Appreciation Journal, now on day 9 and scheduled for at least 30 days,  I have so far talked about the connection between appreciation and various parts of your body.  Today we'll  look at the benefits of appreciation for improving your digestion.

If you're looking to feel more settled in your tummy and avoid the embarrassment of gas, bloating and constipation, join me on this appreciation journey and watch magical things unfold.

Researchers at the Institute of HeartMath  discovered that appreciation stimulates the parasympathetic part of your autonomic nervous system, the involuntary part  that controls automatic functions like digestion.

When you intentionally shift to a positive emotion, particularly appreciation,  your heart rhythms shift creating a positive sequence of changes in your neurology, hormones and biochemistry that benefit your whole body. And..the benefits are both immediate and long lasting.  At the Institute of HeartMath, the technique of shifting to a state of appreciation  has been shown help with  digestive disorders of all kinds as well as ADD/ADHD, Anger, Anxiety and Panic Disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Arrhythmias, Asthma, Chronic Fatigue, Chronic Pain, Depression, Diabetes, Hypertension, Sleep Disorders, Brain Injury Recovery and more.

Doesn't' it sound like the few minutes a day it takes to focus on what you appreciate is worth it?

“HeartMath has clearly proven that your heart is the major reactor to stress, the key to understanding harmony between body, mind, and emotions.  Nothing is more critical to life and health than transforming stress into a positive influence.  HeartMath provides that path to transformation.”
C. Norman Shealy, MD, Ph.D., Founding president of the American Holistic Medical Association
