Making you an Icy Dessert Guilt free by Healthy Ice Cream Hacks

If you are like me, you were an adult by the time you realized your diet was at the root of most health concerns. And it can be hard to break the ties you have to those misguided habits of your childhood and youth.

Sometimes the best thing you can do to successfully stay on the path to your ideal health is find a Healthy Ice Cream Hacks for those treats you loved most before you knew better.

Before I began eating a healthy, plant-based diet, my favorite treat was ice cream.

Once I finally understood how critical healthy eating was to living my best life, ice cream was STILL my favorite treat. So, what’s a self-professed ice cream addict to do?

Figure out how to make delicious AND nutritious ice cream that loved me back, of course, and that’s just what I did!

My first recipe below is for simple, basic ice cream that you can make with a blender and customize to your liking.

Start with a healthy fat for that satisfying creaminess, but the frozen zucchini is critical for success. It adds additional phytonutrients at the same time volume and thickness.  It also leaves you with the option of keeping it low-calorie without sacrificing texture.

The second recipe is an example of how you can customize an ice cream treat to support your nutritional needs.

If you have a frozen ice cream maker, you can even turn a green smoothie into a frozen treat.  I find I like my green ice cream smoothies on the sweeter side as opposed to savory, but it’s easy to adjust most smoothie recipes to fit your idea of a satisfying treat on those days when you want to try something different.

Again, make it your own and don’t be afraid to experiment.

Basic Ingredients for Ice Cream

Ingredients:

  • Fat such as coconut meat, avocado, nuts
  • 1 cup frozen zucchini
  • Flavorings and sweeteners to taste

Directions:

Blend ingredients using a high speed blender like Vitamix with tamper.

If you don’t have a Vitamix you can add water or other liquid then put it in an icecream maker.  These are readily available on Amazon or kitchen websites or locally
