Thoughts to Fall Back On

It's been a busy summer, and I am settling into the fact that it's now autumn; although, thankfully, with temperatures still in the 90s here in Austin it doesn't yet feel that way.

Autumn thoughtsAs much as I do my best to always be positive and optimistic, still a wave of disappointment sweeps over me at this time of year, knowing that I'll soon need to give up my shorts and tank tops for warmer clothing and that all my swimming will need to be in an indoor pool within a short while.

So I started looking at the bright side – at all the things I have to be grateful for and things to look forward to as autumn progresses and winter approaches:

  • My college freshman son will be with us at grandma's for Thanksgiving. I miss him a lot. He's been away at college for 7 weeks now!!!
  • My college freshman son will be home for 6 weeks in December.
  • We're putting on a big LIVE event in March, and it's going to be so much fun to meet many of you from around the globe (we'll start sharing details on this in October).
  • Spring happens right after winter, then summer again!

There's more, but I think you get the point…

Neither I nor you can change what's happening around us. I can't make the seasons stop changing nor create perpetual summer. You can't change your boss or the way he manages. Your mother is unlikely to chage and stop nagging you if she's been doing that for 50 years, and we certainly have no control over the toxins in our food, air, or water.

But dwelling on the stressors we can't change is making us sick.

An Interview that Wasn't Easy for Me to Hear

I learned so many things from him – and they weren't necessarily easy for me to hear.

Like I know my sleep habits are not good for me, but he made it really clear how much risk I am taking when I stay up until 4 a.m.

In fact, he suggests going to bed at 9 or 10 p.m. and getting up at 3 or 4 a.m. …and he presents compelling reasons for doing so.

We need to approach all the stressors in life from the standpoint of wonder and curiosity.

Stop Making Cancer

cancer eraseI had the enormous pleasure of interviewing Dr. Thomas Lodi three times. We did a 3-part interview on my Vibrant Health Solutions radio show, and I hung on every word.

As an integrative oncologist, Dr. Lodi's approach to both cancer treatment and prevention is unique, extremely refreshing, and empowering.

In this article, I would like to share a summary of the points that most impacted me.

Cancer is Not an Enemy

cancer cellCancer is not an enemy to be annihilated. It's your body's attempt to wall off toxins, to protect you, and to restore homeostasis. If you approach it from the standpoint of just getting rid of it, without solving the underlying problem that caused it in the first place, it will come back.

In fact, Dr. Lodi believes that no matter how good all the medical tests look after treatment, the cancer is unlikely to be gone.

Once a cancer is detectable, it's a cluster of a billion cells…
a billion.

It takes about 8 years to progress from a single cancer cell, which we all produce many of daily, to a detectible mass.

By then, there are many other sites of the cancer, but they are still not detectible because they have not yet reached 1 billion cells.

The approach of getting rid of the detectible tumor (i.e. radiation and surgery followed by chemotherapy) doesn't do the trick.

Stop Making Cancer

Cancer *is* in Your Body — Your Only Choice is to Stop Making More.

Whether you have been diagnosed with cancer or not, you still most likely have cancer cells growing in your body.

toxinsNone of us is perfect. We live in a world that's filled with toxins from air, water, and our food.

Plus, you generate toxins internally — all day every day. Metabolic wastes from cellular function; poop from wastes in food; and toxins created by stress, anger, and negative thoughts and emotions all contribute to the toxic soup your cells are bathed in daily.

In order to keep yourself from being diagnosed with cancer, you need to do things to stop making cancer.

You need to have practices in place that don't allow the stray cancer cells that you produce daily to progress to being detectible.

Dr. Lodi talks about food and eating habits in part 2 of our interview together.

He talks about the importance of having your digestive tract empty for long periods each day so that your immune system can divert its attention away from digestion and towards protecting you. This is partly accomplished by allowing at least 3 hours, preferably 5, between your last meal and bed time, going to bed with a fairly empty colon, and sleeping for at least 8 hours.

Cancer, Your Colon, and Coffee Enemas

In part 3, Dr. Lodi talks more about keeping your colon clean, sleep, and positive thoughts and emotions.

While what Dr. Lodi recommends as a cancer protective lifestyle is not easy, it's a lot easier than finding yourself in the doctor's office and getting the news that you have cancer. It's a lot easier than chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery.

Countless numbers of people suffer through “treatment” daily because they chose the “easy” path of readily available processed food, high stress, insufficient sleep, and “dealing” with constipation and digestive woes by popping a pill.

You get to make choices every day – about what you eat, how you think, what you say, and how you care for your body.

Dr. Lodi also recommends reading for 30 minutes a day about health – not disease – health. Learn how miraculous your body is if only you care for it!

Once you master your first step, move to the next and the next.

Dealing with Diagnosis

Of course, if you've already been diagnosed with cancer, I suggest you move quickly and get all of his recommendations in place right away. Consult with him or find an integrative oncologist who can do therapies like IV vitamin C, ozone, sodium selenite, and possibly insulin potentiated chemotherapy ALONG WITH the diet and lifestyle that promotes cancer-free state.

Dr. Ritamarie's Liver Detox Drink Recipe

broccoli seedsIn his interview, Dr. Lodi recommended we all eat a couple of teaspoons a day of broccoli seeds, in addition to sprouts and whole broccoli. Apparently a recent study from John Hopkins confirmed that broccoli seeds are most potent at stimulating phase 2 liver detoxification.

Here's a great smoothie recipe, ideal for jumpstarting your immune system and helping you to stop making cancer.

Liver Lover Brassica Detox Drink


  • 2 tomatoes
  • 2 lemons, peeled but with white part still intact
  • 1 small sliver of lemon peel or 3 drops lemon essential oil
  • 1 cucumber, peeled
  • broccoli sprouts1 package of broccoli sprouts
  • 2 teaspoons broccoli seeds, crushed with mortar and pestle or ground in a coffee grinder
  • 1 handful dandelion leaves
  • 1 handful green cabbage
  • 1/2 small zucchini
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • a few handfuls spinach
  • 2 stalks of celery
  • 2-inch slice of burdock root
  • 1 small piece of fresh turmeric or a teaspoon of dried turmeric
  • 1 handful of fresh dill or 1 tablespoon dried dill
  • 1 sliver of jalapeño (optional)


  1. Blend all ingredients and adjust seasonings and lemon to taste.
