Tip of the Week:
Use your Nose to Beat Stress!

There's something magical about essential oils and the way they change your emotional state almost instantly.

Carry around a bottle of lavender oil for those stressful moments. When the boss, kids, traffic or finances begin to get you upset, simply sniff a bit of lavender.

Apply a few drops to the back of your neck or even your feet to calm yourself. It works like magic!

My favorite brands are Mountain Rose Herbs and Do Terra. They are high quality oils, many food grade.

Food Bliss and Vacation Joy

August 1, 2013

Hi Health-Seeker,

I'm excited about so many things this week.

I am still on a high from the class I taught on Saturday called Fun Adrenal Nourishing Elixirs and Foods. I taught how to energize by choosing the breakfast of champions (hint – it wasn't Wheaties). I invented a new elixir recipe and a new adrenal energizing low glycemic candy.

We broadcast the show on Google Hangouts, so the video is still available on Youtube. Fun Adrenal Nourishing Elixirs and Foods Video

We'll take it down as soon as we get the edited HD version posted to the membership area.

We got booted out of the hangout towards the end and had to create second recording.  The featured video this week is that one, so be sure to watch and follow the link on part 1 that takes you to part 2 to finish up the adrenal candy .

You can access the video along with a 50-page Adrenal Repair Recipe Guide, assessments, videos and checklists plus a 30-day adrenal reboot program with coaching calls with me to get all your questions answered.

Simply join the hundreds of others who are on their way to regaining their energy at my CAFE – Correcting Adrenal Fatigue and Exhaustion.

I'll be heading out to Florida next week to get some R&R, so we may skip a week on the newsletter.

Enjoy today's featured video, along with a brand new recipe I was inspired to create to support adrenal and thyroid health.

The Many Health Benefits of Chia

The “Magic” Seed

There’s a very special food I’ve been recommending to my patients and students for many years that’s seen a sudden popularity over the past few years.

In fact, the secret of this seed’s power has created a number of companies that are selling it at an exorbitant price and claiming it as the super food that is the answer to all medical problems.

Here’s a quote from a newsletter by a popular N.M.D.  who calls himself “America’s Natural Doctor”.

“Unbelievable as it sounds, Dr. S has discovered a stunning secret that can transform ANY food — even decadent treats like fresh-baked brownies — into a nutritional goldmine that rivals superfoods like salmon, broccoli, and blueberries.

But as perfect as this food is, news about its amazing potential simply hasn't become public…At least, not yet.”

He then sends the reader to a video which goes on and on about a magic seed that sounds too good to be true.

I have a really hard time with this kind of advertising!

Olive Leaf for Insulin Resistance

Herb outperforms Metformin, a common medication for insulin resistance

Last week,we discussed intermittent fasting as a tool for managing blood sugar and weight.  Continuing on with blood sugar balance tools, this week, I would like to share some compelling research about a relatively new twist for a popular herb.

Adaptogenic Seaweed Soup

This recipe was inspired by Truth Calkins, at Longevity Now conference.  I had a cup of seaweed soup at the snack bar and fell in love.  I added a few extra ingredients and did my best to recreate it with my own twists, making it an amazing tool to support your adrenals, thyroid and immune system.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups sea vegetables:  I used kelp, dulse, wakame and a mixed seaweed blend
  • 1/2 cup dried maitake mushroom
  • 1 large piece fresh ginger
  • juice of 2 lemons
  • 1 tablespoon miso (I used soy-free chick pea miso from South River Miso)
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic
  • 1 teaspoon cordyceps mushroom powder
  • ½  tablespoon ashwaganda powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon astragalus powder
  • 1 tablespoon maca powder
  • 1/2- 1 teaspoon flax or coconut oil (or a combination) for each serving

Directions

  1. Place sea vegetables and dried maitake mushroom in a large bowl and add enough water to cover them twice.
  2. After about 15 minutes the sea veggies and mushrooms should be soft.
  3. Place the sea vegetables and soak water in large Vitamix container
  4. Add remaining ingredients and blend until smooth.
  5. Serve in a bowl with a teaspoon of flax or coconut oil on top to aid in the absorption of the essential nutrients.
  6. Add chopped vegetables or wilted greens if desired.

Note:

This makes an entire 64-ounce container full.  If you have a smaller blender, either do it in batches or cut the recipe in half. If you are sensitive to mushrooms, leave out the maitake and cordyceps.
