Tip of the Week:
Sea veggies and your metabolism

Rev up your metabolism by including sea vegetables daily.  One of my favorite ways is to sprinkle powdered kelp on most of my meals. Enjoy in smoothies, elixirs, dips, salad dressings, soups and pates. Yummy, full of minerals and great for your thyroid.

 Vibrant Health in 2014

Hi Health-Seeker,

It’s a new year, and I am fully charged and inspired to share gems of wisdom that can change your life.

We are gearing up for new programs on topics that have been in demand for a while now. Stay tuned for empowering insights on how to assess and balance your thyroid and give you back your energy and vigor.

After spending the past weekend teaching over 60 health and wellness professionals dedicated to getting the best results for their clients, I am excited to chill and connect with colleagues in holistic health and wellness to mastermind over the best ways to serve our clients and patients.

I am in sunny Florida, where a cold front has descended, and as I write this it’s 36 degrees. So much for going to the beach.

Monday promised to be a bit warmer so I will indeed walk barefoot on the beach for at least a little bit before I catch my flight back home.

Please jot a line to [email protected] with subject line SUGGESTIONS if there are particular topics you’d like to learn more about, this will help me to determine what to write about on the blog, talk about on the radio show, and demonstrate on video.

Talk to you soon.

With love and appreciation,

Dr. Ritamarie Loscalzo

7 Ways to Use Ginger to Heal Pain and Inflammation

Ginger is a tasty spice with several health benefits.  Studies show this uniquely flavored root is a potent antioxidant, and is able to prevent or slow atherosclerosis, lower LDL (the ‘bad’ cholesterol) and ease stomach distress.

But it is also naturally anti-inflammatory, making it a great food for those who deal with the chronic pain associated with arthritis, fibromyalgia, inflammatory bowel and other conditions.

S.H.I.N.E.  in Review

If you joined me at S.H.I.N.E. this past weekend, you know that I set the bar high for the quality of care we need to be providing to our clients.  Conventional medicine is just not fully using all the assessments available to help people uncover the true cause of their health challenges and using the power of functional medicine and nutritional assessments, along with the treasure tro of tools nature has provided to help restore balance. We have what we need to support even those who have been told to “just live with it”.

By mastering the resources of nutritional endocrinology, we are at the leading edge f health care.

At S.H.I.N.E., we focused on changing lives and thus contributing to world peace.  Healthy happy people rarely fight, except to defend their freedoms.  If everyone is healthy and happy, no fights can occur.

I know it seems like a lofty goal but I know that we have the power to change the face of healthcare.

In case you missed the live event, take a look at the pictures.

We laughed, we learned , we hugged, we tested our body functions and we made new friends.  And about a dozen participants said YES to themselves and their clients, and stepped into a powerful Nutritional Endocrinology Practitioner Training and Coaching Program and will work closely with me over the coming months and learn all my strategies , share my protocols and be trained as Functional ZENdocrinology Nutritionists.

If you ‘d like to know more about this powerful and exclusive coaching opportunity, shoot an email to [email protected] and we'll tell you all about it.

  Flax Crisps or Tortillas

Replace the unhealthy, processed chips with these delicious and versatile flax crisps that can be flavored with a variety of different herbs and spices, especially the ones that help fight inflammation:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup golden flax seed

  • 3 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 tomato
  • 2 – 3 carrots
  • 2 – 3 stalks of celery
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/4  teaspoon curry powder
  • 1/4  teaspoon cayenne
  • 2 cloves garlic

Seasoning options (amount to taste): Italian seasoning and basil, chili powder, cayenne, lime juice, cilantro ,curry powder, cumin and turmeric

Directions:

1. Put flax seeds into a deep bowl and cover with water.

2. Stir well to make sure there are no lumps.

3. Cover and let sit overnight, either at room temperature or in the refrigerator. The seeds will become a gelatinous mixture.

4. Put flax mixture in blender with salt and pulse-blend until smooth. You may need to do this in small batches to prevent blender from overheating.  A few un- blended flax seeds usually remain, which is fine.

5. Pour flax mixture into large bowl.

6. Place vegetables in blender with a small amount of water (just enough to allow the blender to work).  Blend to a thick liquid.

7. Add vegetables to flax mixture.

8. Taste and add extra salt and seasonings if desired.

9. Thin with water if needed.

10. Pour thinly onto Paraflexx™ sheets.

For tortillas, use a measuring cup to pour equal sized circles. For crackers, fill the sheet.
