Gluten Free Diet Lunch BoxHost and Guest Speaker:

Dr. Ritamarie Loscalzo interviews Donna Kasuska

In this show you'll learn:

  • How the chemicals in your food storage containers can pose a burden on your health as well as the environment.
  • Strategies to know more about the different types of storage containers so that you can make better choices.
  • Suggestions you can follow to reduce plastics and toxic exposures in your home.

Background:

Storing leftovers has long been a way to stretch out our meals over the days that follow, and many kitchens are well-stocked with plastic tubs, cling wrap, and other containers. Although they cut down on food waste, some containers may pose a burden to our health, as well as on the environment. Storing food in reusable containers helps reduce environmental impacts associated with single-use containers, but knowing more about the different types of containers (including the types of resin used for plastic containers) can help you make better choices.

Join Dr. Ritamarie and Donna Kasuska as they discuss the different material options we have for food storage, as well as in the equipment and tools we use in our food preparation.

Donna and Ritamarie (2)Donna Kasuska is founder and CEO of ChemConscious, Inc., an engineering consulting company that is on a mission to create a healthier world by increasing chemical awareness. Donna provides consulting services to the chemical industry, and also brings technical, yet practical, information to the public.

Donna is dedicated to bridging the information gap between industry and the public. As a chemical engineer with over 30 years of experience, Donna has seen, first hand, how water is treated, food is processed, and how many personal and household products are manufactured. Throughout the years, Donna has recognized that her experience could be useful, and, in some cases, critical to the non-technical members of communities who need to understand the concepts of emergency prevention, safe drinking water, toxicity, indoor air quality and security. Donna continues to provide consulting services to her industrial clients, and has extended her services to assist schools, small businesses, community organizations, and parents in their understanding of these issues. Donna now dedicates much of her time to speaking, writing, and publicly communicating the urgent message regarding the overuse of chemicals. She speaks and writes passionately about the hidden hazards of chemicals in our environment. She will show you how to recognize and avoid the harmful chemicals by making better choices without changing your life style. Information, articles, and e-books can be found at her website www.chemconscious.com.

The first hour of the day is when most of us put the highest toxic load on our bodies. Through our food, air, drinking water, personal care products, and cleaning products, we unknowingly absorb hazardous substances. Wouldn't you rather transform that hour into the healthiest, most rejuvenating time of the day for you and your family?

I always reasoned that plastic comes from petroleum. How could it be harmless. My question is this aren’t our juicers and blenders made these materials. Would it be betterif is some inventer made these things with silicone? Would silicone be safer? maybe somehow mixing it with clay or ceramic to make it harder. So what if the containers are not transparent. Our health is more important. What do you think of this?
