The holidays are a magical time filled with family, joy, and (of course) delicious treats and holiday beverages. But when you’re committed to eating healthy or supporting loved ones with dietary restrictions, traditional recipes can feel limiting.

One Christmas, I decided to take on the challenge of recreating a holiday classic—traditional eggnog that tastes delicious—without the sugar, egg yolks, or dairy. The result? This vegan Eggnog Sans Egg, a creamy, spiced drink that fits perfectly into a raw vegan, low-glycemic, and keto-friendly lifestyle and still has the eggnog taste. The best part? My family couldn’t tell the difference, and it’s now a staple at every celebration. It's absolutely delicious!

What Is Eggnog Sans Egg Made Of?

This sugar free eggnog recipe swaps traditional ingredients like cream, egg yolks, and sugar for wholesome plant-based alternatives. Its star ingredients in this creamy vegan eggnog include raw macadamia nuts for creaminess, warming spices like cardamom, ground cinnamon, and freshly ground nutmeg for that classic eggnog flavor, and monk fruit for natural, zero-carb sweetness. Together, these ingredients create a drink with that luscious creamy texture that’s perfect for all dietary lifestyles, keto, vegans, and anyone avoiding gluten, dairy, or refined sugar and still creates a wonderful recipe.

How Do You Make Eggnog Sans Egg?

This low-carb vegan eggnog recipe for the holiday season is as easy to make as it is delicious. Simply combine all the ingredients in a blender—macadamia nuts, water, spices, and monk fruit sweetener—and blend until it’s silky smooth. Adjust the spices and sweetener to suit your taste. The result? A luxuriously creamy homemade eggnog that’s ready in minutes and perfect for sipping by the fire or serving at holiday gatherings.

How Do You Customize This Recipe?

One of the best things about this dairy-free holiday vegan eggnog recipe is how versatile it is. Here are some ways to make it your own:

  • Don't have Macadamia Nuts: Replace the macadamia nuts and water with macadamia milk. You can also use raw cashews nuts or cashew milk or any combination of nuts. Try raw cashews, almonds, or sunflower seeds for a slightly different flavor and texture.
  • Add a Superfood Boost: Mix in a teaspoon of maca powder or a mushroom blend for added energy and hormone support.
  • Vanilla Flavor: Stir in some vanilla extract.
  • Make it Creamier: Swap the water for full fat coconut milk or some unsweetened almond milk. Coconut milk is naturally sweetened, but it may also give it a slight coconut flavor.
  • Make it a Dessert: Add a dollop of coconut whipped cream on top.
  • Serve Warm: Gently heat the mixture on the stove for a cozy, spiced drink.

How Do These Ingredients Help With Blood Sugar Balancing, Heart Health, and Hormones?

Every ingredient in this holiday eggnog is chosen to support your body, helping with hormonal balance, blood sugar regulation, and overall health while fitting perfectly into your dietary goals. This creamy, spiced vegan eggnog recipe is full of ingredients that go beyond flavor to offer significant health benefits.

Macadamia Nuts

Macadamia nuts are rich in monounsaturated fats which reduce cholesterol production in the liver and improve lipid profiles. They’re also an excellent source of magnesium that supports insulin sensitivity, blood sugar stability, and muscle relaxation.

These nuts supply plant-based protein and dietary fiber for nourishing the gut microbiome. Their ?-sitosterol content—a plant sterol—competes with cholesterol for absorption which further improves heart health. Macadamia nuts are also loaded with antioxidants like galangin, a flavonoid shown to inhibit cancer cell growth and promote apoptosis.

Cinnamon and Nutmeg

Cinnamon is a well-known ally for blood sugar regulation, thanks to its ability to improve insulin sensitivity. Its active compound, cinnamaldehyde, has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties that help to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation—two key factors in hormone imbalance. Cinnamon also provides potassium, magnesium, and calcium, which collectively support heart function, bone health, and nerve signaling.

Nutmeg complements cinnamon with its digestive-soothing properties. It is rich in bioactive compounds like myristicin and macelignan which are antimicrobial, antidiarrheal, and antioxidant. These compounds can reduce oxidative stress, support gut health, and improve metabolic processes critical for hormonal balance.

Monk Fruit Sweetener

Monk fruit comes from the fruit of Lou Han which contains mogrosides, a natural zero-calorie, zero-glycemic sweetener. Mogrosides not only provide sweetness without raising blood sugar levels but also exhibit anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Monk fruit has been traditionally used in Chinese medicine to support respiratory and digestive health and shows promise for anti-cancer and neuroprotective effects.

Cardamom and Clove

Cardamom contains bioactive compounds like cineole and terpinene, which help reduce inflammation by blocking inflammatory pathways, including COX-2 and NF-?B. This action reduces systemic stressors that interfere with endocrine function and help with balancing hormones. Cardamom also supports gut health by improving digestion and nutrient absorption needed for maintaining hormonal equilibrium.

Clove is rich in the compound eugenol which is a strong antioxidant and antimicrobial. Eugenol has been shown to combat oxidative stress and reducing cellular damage. Clove also acts as a natural analgesic and anti-inflammatory which helps soothe gut inflammation and promotes a balanced microbiome. Its antimicrobial properties further aid digestion by targeting harmful bacteria which can interfere with nutrient absorption and hormone production.
