How to Detox

I am super excited to share this post about detox and cleansing by my friend, Dr. Marisol Teijeiro, N.D., who has a private practice in Ontario, Canada and founded Queen of the Thrones. Take it away, Dr. Marisol!

I recently hosted a super informative Facebook Live with Dr. Marisol. In case you missed it, here is a link to the replay:

Dr. Marisol, take it away!

You know you want to do a cleanse. You keep hearing about them… How good everyone feels after doing them…

But then you’ve also heard how sometimes you can feel very bad on them, too. Well that scares you and completely turns you off. After all, who wants to invest time and money into a cleanse and then feel bad, instead of feeling better?

Plus, maybe cleanses are more for Hollywood starlets anyway. You simply don’t have time for it! You don’t have a personal chef, a trainer, or all the bells and whistles needed to do it well.

I'm here to tell you that you CAN do a cleanse. There is an easy, simple and time-honored way that I’m going to teach you. You can have the best of both worlds, you know, kind of like a gluten-free, dairy-free cake.

It’s an easy-peasy cleanse I like to call The Original Cleanse that you can do on it’s own, or even better, combine with any other cleanse you may be tempted to try… it actually makes any cleanse work better and faster! It involves a nightly practice of a castor oil pack and beauty sleep eye routine.

It prevents you from experiencing any of the dreaded detox symptoms that may have prevented you from trying a cleanse in the first place, or that you experienced last time and are causing you to steer clear – such as fatigue, a foggy brain, muscle aches and pains, digestive drama and an overall feeling of un-wellness!

Read on to learn why cleansing is so important, why you might experience cleansing symptoms and how to make it better with The Original Cleanse.

Cleansing is a Natural Function

Did you know that cleansing is the most natural thing that our body does? It’s born into you when you come into this world. Based on the simple adage, your body is built to keep you in line like this. After all, cleanliness is next to godliness!

Our bodies are amazing manufacturing plants. They manufacture energy, hormones, neurotransmitters, pee, and my most favorite subject to talk about – poop!

As with any great manufacturing plant, there are waste products that must be packaged and removed regularly, or there is a problem and no space to manufacture anything else properly. Your body is the same, we need to keep things clean and tidy to have an optimum feel-good life!

Cleanse Organs

When people talk about cleansing or detox, they use these words interchangeably. They are often focusing on organs like the liver, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, skin, lungs and the various mechanisms that move stuff out.

However, what is often forgotten is the ever important aspect that guides this function, and that is our nervous system, and more specifically, our ‘stressed’ or ‘rested’ states of being.

Cleanse Symptoms

The reality is this, cleanse symptoms only happen because your focus has been on the organs of cleansing, instead of on the director of the symphony orchestra… the relaxed state of the nervous system.

This relaxed state, otherwise known as the parasympathetic state, is where cleansing occurs. The biggest problem in this day and age is that we are constantly in the stressed state (opposite of relaxed) called the sympathetic state.

Symptoms of living in a dominant sympathetic stressed state include excessive fatigue, foggy brain, problems sleeping, hormonal imbalance, immune weakness, muscle aches and pains, indigestion, constipation, diarrhea, IBS and anxiety. Pretty much what so many of us are dealing with on a regular basis, that can be aggravated when starting a cleanse without the proper preparation. That’s why The Original Cleanse is so amazing to adopt as a lifestyle practice. You are prepared for anything. ]

When we do a cleanse, without first training our bodies to get into the relaxed state, we have a buildup so bad because no matter what potions, supplements or great food you give it; if you are not in the relaxed state you have what is called a bottleneck effect. Things coming in but there is something stopping it from coming out. WHY?

How Our Body Naturally Cleanses

It has everything to do with your blood flow. If you want to avoid the dreaded bottleneck situation, we have to make sure that the flow fluids is in the right direction, both literally and figuratively. The direction is dictated by the ideal state of the nervous system and that is in the relaxed, parasympathetic state!

In this state, blood flows to the internal organs in the abdomen. The flow of blood moves things in and out, including bringing vital nutrients into the body to do their jobs and moving toxins that need to come out. It also brings elements that help to move the bowels properly.

In the stressed state, the opposite is true. Blood flows to the extremities, and unfortunately will move those toxic elements to the joints, causing joint aches and pains. It’ll also go up to the brain, causing headaches because when you’re stressed, the blood brain barrier is leaky. You get foggy brain, headaches and you feel fatigued because instead of eliminating and being light as a feather, you are loaded. Not with dollars, but loaded with the stuff that needs to come out. It’ll also bother your skin, building up there too, all in those lovely extremities.

Caveman at Heart

You see, much of our programming and automated responses were developed in paleolithic times, now known commonly as paleo. When we lived in caves and had to run away from predators to be safe.

So for you, your predators may be your bills, your kids, your boss, traffic, or emotional stressors, such as a fight with a friend or your mother in law. Whereas before it would have been a lion, now it is the red light, driving you nuts, or your computer that froze up causing you to lose everything you’ve been working on.

You see, it bottlenecks in the extremities. So our first major goal is to retrain the nervous system into the relaxed state. Then we simply let nature take its course and you are in cleanse heaven.

Cleansing with the Fathers of Medicine

The ancient doctors knew this. There is a saying that states, “The doctor dresses the wound and nature heals it”.

This is why we work with what I have called The Original Cleanse. A supplement-free nightly routine that has been practiced for eons, to naturally train your body into the pause, or the RELAXED state.

The more you practice it, the better you are at releasing toxicity regularly, so then when you do a more intensive cleansing endeavor, your body is ready for it.

How To Do The Original Cleanse

As we said earlier, you can still do your favorite cleanse, YES, but add this into your life as a daily practice and you will also supercharge your health.

Because it helps you to:

  • Poop better
  • Cleanse better2 3 and balance your hormones
  • Bloat less4 and digest better5
  • Stress less 6 7 8 and sleep better9
  • LOOK & FEEL better

These are the most important functions of our body that we can optimize with The Original Cleanseusing a nightly castor oil pack and beauty sleep eye ritual.

All you do is dress the wound! And nature does the rest.

Apply a pack over the liver with castor oil and use the Beauty Sleep Eye Kit to apply castor oil to the eyes, then cover with the eye mask.

This also provides a variety of support for the pillars of your health. Such as balancing stress, inflammation10, improving gut health via digestion11, absorption and elimination12, enhancing your microbiome13 14 15, giving you amazing antioxidants like vitamin E, essential fats and polyphenols16, plus enhancing feel good hormones like dopamine17, oxytocin18 and melatonin19 so you sleep like a baby.

We are so excited for you to start this health practice that will bring you into a new decade of amazing health and happiness!
